There is still an opportunity for our generation to be heroes rather than villains in our great-grandchildren’s textbooks
Those of us in the rich world have become rich through cheap energy from fossil fuels that we have received over many decades. It is now increasingly apparent that emissions from burning fossil fuels are causing great damage, especially to the world's poorest people. There is a moral and Christian imperative to offset the damage we continue to cause: this can be done through Climate Stewards. I commend the scheme to you.
I do hope that many Christians will take up the A Rocha challenge and will engage in tree-planting through Climate Stewards. Every piece of good work like Climate Stewards makes an important contribution towards conserving the planet and celebrating God's wonderful creation. I support it wholeheartedly.
Whether you drive a car or travel by air, the climate needs you to get behind the Climate Stewards initiative urgently. Every day we are adding to climate change by our travel. This is the most realistic scheme I have seen to enable private individuals to do something about it.
If you do one thing for the environment this year, sign up for this scheme. It is run by the world's only international Christian nature conservation group. Not only will it benefit the climate, it will also help biodiversity in threatened areas of the world, and it will help needy communities. Go carbon neutral this year!
Climate change is not a threat. It is a reality. There is a difference. When the history of the 21st century is written, there will be only one major story. There is still an opportunity for our generation to be heroes rather than villains in our great-grandchildren's textbooks. Climate Stewards is a positive, creative response to this reality. I'm on board.
